How can a door offer hope and dignity?
One of the newest endeavors Tios for Hope has undertaken is construction with a focus on bathrooms for families with students attending Mana de Vida. This year alone, 5 mission trips have been made. Over the last 3 years, there have been 16 bathrooms constructed and one home built. These bathrooms are a simple structure consisting of a toilet, shower, sinkcontained in a block structure with a metal door. Most of the homes we are working with might have a toilet but often it is situated close to where the food is prepared and in the open. For a cost of around $1,300, these bathrooms not only bring better hygiene to the family but also dignity. While we have hired two brothers to build these, the visiting construction teams have the opportunity to be in the homes and interact with the homeowners while helping the brothers. Both the homeowner and the mission team get to experience and see God’s love in action. Many are surprised that these Americans are building a bathroom for them, but even more so that we come to help build it. This opens the door for us to give our testimonies, talk about Jesus and pray for them and their families. However, the greatest reward has been when someone gives their life to Jesus. This has happened multiple times over the last three years.Praise the Lord for allowing us to be part of His desire to bringsalvation for everyone.
