Stories of Hope - Manuel

Get to Know Manuel

Everybody calls Manuel, “Chef” because he is the head chef for Maná de Vida (MDV). Chef has been a student and now an employee for a total of 6 years. He is studying Agroindustrial Systems Engineering at a university thanks in part to scholarship money provided through the Tios for Hope Sponsorship Program. Like so many other graduates of MDV, Chef is grateful for the opportunities to advance and find a fulfilling career through the education and mentorship that he received as a student. He feels that MDV cares about the community and they know how to identify the needs and provide support. His time as a student at MDV has changed his life because he has felt the love of God, become more organized, learned how to forgive and help others. He has learned to set goals and work to achieve them. His eyes lit up when asked if he will continue as head chef when he finishes his degree. He hopes to continue the cycle of transformation in the community of Escuintla through mentoring others at the school and pursuing excellence in nutrition and culinary skills.
